The Miracle Word


1 Samuel 3:1,10,19-21

<A Trustworthy Prophet of the Lord>

When the word of the Lord was rare, God spoke to Samuel four times (1 Samuel 3:1).

"Samuel! Samuel!"

At the last call, Samuel finally recognized that it was the Lord speaking.

"Speak, for your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3:2-10).

Since then, the Lord has been with him, and none of his words have fallen to the ground. Everyone knew that Samuel was a trustworthy prophet of the Lord (v19).

He listened to the Miracle word.

He became the Miracle word.


<The Miracle Words in the Bible>

There are many miracle words used to describe our Bible heroes.

  • Enoch was called the man who walked faithfully with God; then he was no more because God took him away (Genesis 5:24).

  • Noah was called a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God (Genesis 6:9).

  • Abraham was called the Father of Faith (Romans 4:16).

  • Moses was called “I drew him out of the water” (Exodus 2:10) and then the man who spoke to God “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (Exodus 33:11).

  • Job was called the man who was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil (Job 1:1).

  • David was called a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22).

  • Peter was called Simon of John once and then called Rock, the Foundation of the church (Matthew 16:18).

  • Paul was called the Apostle to the Gentiles (Galatians 1:16).

  • Barnabas was called the Son of Encouragement (Acts 4:36-37).

  • James was called Old Camel Knee because he prayed so much, and his knees looked like old camel knees.



<The Miracle Word, Jesus>

There are many miracle names to call Jesus (John 1) • #1 Word (1:1-3,14). ... • #2 Light (1:4-9). ... • #3 Son of God. ... • #4 Christ (1:19-28, 35-42). ... • #5 Lamb of God (1:29, 35-36). ... • #6 King of Israel (1:43-49). ... • #7 Son of Man (1:50-51)... Most of all, He was the Miracle Word. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) The Miracle Word became flesh to be with us for making us His Miracle words. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) 


<Martin Luther King Jr, another Miracle word>

There was the miracle word who gave a speech "I have a dream" "Let us not wallow in the valley of despair. I say to you, my friends, we have the difficulties of today and tomorrow. I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal…… I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by their character….." Martin Luther King Jr listened to the Miracle word, God's promise. He dreamt of the new world. God has been responding to his dream. Martin was called a prominent civic leader and we remembered Him with another Miracle word, especially on Martin Luther King Jr.'s day. 

<Our Miracle Word, Trustworthy Servant>

What are you called? What do you want to be called? When I was in high school, I was just a girl, struggling with my selfishness and ambivalent attitude toward my siblings and friends. God called me "A mother of prayer and love" I laughed like Sara who heard that she would have a boy Still, I am struggling with my selfishness and ambivalent attitude, but God has been molding me to be a mother of prayer and love in some ways. When we listen to the Miracle Word, and He will make us the Miracle word. Someday He would call us "Well done, good and trustworthy servant! " His master said to him, Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” (Matthew 25:23)

  (2023년 12월 3일 모교회 열린문 교회에서 설교) -벧전 2:1-10-  < 인생의 쉼표 > 한승리 목사의 아내로 다섯 자녀의 엄마로 14 년을 살다가 작년부터 로컬 패스터 (Local Pastor, 본처 목사 ) 로 남편과 미국 북동부 끝 홀튼이라는 작은 마을에서 Houlton, Hodgdon, and Mars Hill UMC 을 팀사역으로 섬기고 있는 목사모 ( 목사 + 사모 ) 강영은입니다 . 제가 사는 곳은 한국 사람이 없는 백인 동네로 한인 마트는 6 시간 떨어진 보스턴에 있어 저는 퓨전 요리의 달인이 되었습니다 . 저출산 시대에 왜 아이를 다섯이나 낳았냐는 질문을 많이 받습니다 . 10 년전 이곳 시골마을에 부르셨을 때 양화진에 묻힌 선교사님들 , 140 여년전 이 땅을 밟으신 언더우드 선교사님 , 아펜젤러 선교사님을 보여주시며 그들과 같이 자녀를 낳고 뿌리 내리며 그들과 하나가 되라는 감동을 주셨습니다 . 그렇게 셋째를 낳기 시작해서 다섯째까지 낳으며 젊은 엄마들과의 모임도 시작하고 , 주일학교 , 성경공부 등 다양한 사역을 아이들과 함께 하기 시작하며 이들과 하나가 되었습니다 . 처음 3~4 년에는 참으로 어려운 일들이 있었습니다 . 시골 마을의 정서상 언제 떠날지 모르는 한인 목사 가정에게 쉽사리 마음을 열어주지 않았고 , 목회자를 인정하지 않는 분위기 속에서 인종차별 , 리더십 문제 , 마을 특유의 정체성 등의 문제들이 불거져 하루 하루 눈물로 베개를 적셔야 했습니다 . 감독 , 감리사님 , 지인들 모두 그 곳을 떠나라고 권유했을 때 아무리 기도해도 하나님께서 떠나라는 마음을 주시지 않고 견디라고 하셔서 버텼습니다 . 그 어려운 시간이 지나자 이제는 누가

사랑하는 외할머니께

  사랑하는 외할머니께 “ 역시 할머니 !” 하고 칭찬해드리면 늘 웃으시면서 겸손하게 “ 역씨가 삼씨야 !” 하고 넘기시고   할머니 주변의   모든   사람들을 재밌게 해주신 나의 멋진 할머니 !  외할머니께서 해주신 갖가지 맛있는 음식들을 기억합니다. 명절이 되기 한참 전부터 만드신 모든 종류의 김치들, 김장 김치, 백김치, 열무 김치, 오이 김치, 명절 음식 갈비찜, 잡채, 전, 그리고 함께 만든 여러 모양의 만두 빗기들을 기억해요.   외할머니와 함께 있는 것이 참 즐겁고 행복했어요. 윷놀이로 온 식구들이 하나가 되어 재밌게 놀게 하시고, 노래방에서 아이들 어른들 다 제치시고 재밌게 춤추며 노래 부르시고, 옥상에 올라가 끝말 잇기, 달밤에 체조하기, 저희들의 장기 자랑 보기 등 재밌게 지냈던 것을 기억해요.   외할머니 외할아버지의 하루 일상은 제 삶에 큰 영향을 미쳤어요. 눈이 오나 비가 오나 식구들이 와도 새벽 3시에 기상하셔서 걷고 걸어 차 기다려서 새벽예배에 참석하시고, 오시자마자 마당 청소, 쓰레기 버리시고, 강원대 한 바퀴 도시며 한 시간 넘게 운동하시고, 솜씨 좋은 할머니 표 반찬들 꺼내 아침 식사 오순 도순 하시고, 가정 예배을 함께 하면서 그 많은 자녀들 손주들 증손주들 이름 하나 하나 빠지지 않고 부르시며 기도하시고, 찬양과 말씀 읽기를 하시며 성경을 6개월, 3개월, 나중에는 한달에 한 독을 하시던 두 분의 모습을 기억해요.  외할머니께서 해주신 이불들 덮으며 외할머니의 온기를 느끼고, 손수 만들어주신 면보자기로 음식 할 때마다 외할머니의 음식 맛을 상상하고, 아이들 선물 주신 것들 볼 때마다 외할머니처럼 딸 아들 딸 딸 딸 다섯 자녀 낳은 저를 위로와 격려해주셨던 말들을 기억해요.  외할머니의 오직 한 사랑, 외할아버지 돌아가시고 나서 그리움과 슬픔을 견디기 힘들어하셨던 것, 하루 빨리 다시 만나길 원하셨던 것, 그러나 이 땅에 남겨진 사랑하는 식구들에게 마음의 준비를 하라고, 서로 사랑하면서 살라고

                                                                                                            (1 Peter 2:1-10)                                            <Life’s Punctuation> Thank you all for your support over the past three weeks through prayers, offerings, calls, texts, cards, visits, babysitting, and providing meal plans for the Han family while I was away for thyroid surgery in Korea. I am truly a debtor to grace, and I will never forget the love and grace you've shown. The blessings I've received made my cancer seem small, and I can confess that God gave me a small cancer but greater gifts. During our visit to Korea in August for the initial health checkup, my husband underwent surgery for nasal polyps, and while accompanying him as a guardian, I was persuaded by the doctor to undergo a tissue examination.
